In this activity we address the differences between fast-acting and ultra-fast-acting insulin analogues in insulin pump therapy, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of insulin delivery using pumps, and introduce recent advances in pump technology.
Following the interactive infographic, participants should:
- Be able to compare pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data for fast-acting and ultra-fast-acting insulin analogues administered via insulin pump
- Recognize and discuss the need for a more rapidly absorbable insulin for use in insulin pump therapy
- Appreciate the advantages of insulin pump therapy and list current issues pending its use
- Recognize new technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring devices as an important advancement in achieving adequate glycaemic control
